Turk Telekom set up a joint venture company with Aerospatiale (merged by Alcatel Space, then Thales Alenia Space), called EurasiaSat , which would be in charge of purchasing a new generation satellite named Turksat 2A (also known as Eurasiasat 1). Turksat 2A started commercial service on February 1, 2001 with the same 42 degrees east location of Turksat 1C

Company History and Overview

Turksat Satellite Communication and Cable TV Operation AS is the only satellite operator company in Turkey. It was founded as a publicly owned and privately operated company. Turksat AS also has 75% of the shares of Eurasiasat SAM, jointly established a spin-off company with Alcatel Space in 1996 to manufacture and launch Turksat 2A (Eurasiasat 1) in 2001
Failures

Turksat 1A

Turksat 1A was the first attempt of the project and launched by Ariane 4 from Centre Spatial Guyanais in Kourou, French Guiana on January 24, 1994. Due to the failure of the launcher, satellite exploded in the air before mounting its orbit.

Future Satellites

August 2009

TURKSAT's Director General said on Friday that the company has started the procurement process for TURKSAT 4A satellite which is planned to be launched in 2011. The company will send a preliminary specification to companies intersted in producing the satellite by the end of this month. and expects them to present their offers within 1.5 months. to start manufacturing of the satellite before the end of this year.

The capacity of TURKSAT 4A will be 10% more from TURKSAT 3A and 50 Turkish engineers will be assigned in all manufacturing processes of the satellite

The company plans the dump the old TURKSAT 1C satellite after the launch of TURKSAT 4A in 2011.
