הקהילה אישרה עיסקת News Corp- Premiere

מוסדות הקהילה האירופית אישרו ביום חמישי שעבר את העיסקה במסגרתה רכשה חברת News Corp. חבילה של 25% מהמניות של חבילת הלווין הגרמנית Premiere, אבל רק לאחר שחברת News Corp. הסכימה לאפשר גישה לחבילה הגרמנית גם לערוצים חיצוניים.

לחבילת Premiere יש כיום 4.3 מליון מנויים . המנויים יכולים לצפות כיום בערוצים חיצוניים לחבילה אבל החברה אמרה שעם המעבר הסופי לשיטת ההצפנה של NDS אפשרות זו צפויה להיחסם כליל. הועדה האירופית אמרה בנימוקיה שחסימה כזו תחבל בתחרות ואילצה את החברה לוותר על כוונותיה בנושא.

European Commission OKs Premiere stake

The European Commission on Wednesday cleared News Corp.'s purchase of a 25% stake in German pay TV operator Premiere, but only after the U.S. media titan agreed to give third parties access to Premiere's satellite platform.

Premiere's 4.3 million clients can watch pay TV programs broadcast by its competitors, but the company had announced that would end when it switched to technology used by News Corp. The commission said the move would stifle competition and forced the company to reverse its plans.
